Rise and Shine, Part Two

“The Power of Light”

Genesis 1:1-5, 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”

1. The Situation (Ge.1:1-2) “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth

was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep…”

2. God’s Spirit (Ge.1:2b) “and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

3. God Spoke (Ge.1:3a) “And God said, ‘Let there be light’”

4. God Settled it (Ge.1:3b) “and there was light.”

5.God Saw (Ge.1:4) “God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the

darkness.”

6. The Significance (2 Co.4:6) “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light

shine in out hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of

Christ.”

• Jesus gives something you can’t get on your own. “In him was life” John 1:4

• Jesus gives something better than you deserve. “I have come that you may have life and

have it to the full.” John 10:10b

• Jesus shows where to go when you could never find it on your own. John 9:39 “I have come

into this world, so that the blind may see.”

Application:

John 8:12 (Jesus said) “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,

but will have the light of life.”

• Revelation “I am the light of the world”

• Redemption “I am the light of the world. Whoever”

• Response “Whoever follows me”

• Result “will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
